Happy Birthday MacGyver!

Friday, January 1, 2010

My hubby is a New Year's baby. According to him, he was the first baby born in his hometown in his year. Just a fun FYI.

We were in rough shape this morning. 2:30 am bedtime + 6:30 am toddler wakeup = a very tired birthday boy.

He was in good spirits though, and even cooked breakfast for the family: egg and sausage sandwiches. Turtle was going to have oatmeal, then had a meltdown, and then ate his oatmeal, a fried egg, a sausage link and half an english muffin. He wasn't hungry at all.

Next up, time for presents. Turtle got him a really cool UMiami puzzle that we are going to build and mount in his office. I got him a gorgeous book commemorating the Yankees 27th World Series...

...and "The Hangover." He's thrilled.

And then it was time for nap. For everyone. Pugs included. Yay.

Since it was nothing short of dreary out, we made it a Pajama Day (showers, yes; pants without elastic waists, no) and just hung out, watching Shrek (for Turtle) and football (for the adults).

MacGyver's special request was that he and Turtle help me assemble his birthday cake. It was a 3 layers, 6" black forest with bavarian cream filling and whipped cream frosting.

Look at what a good helper I have! Someone had to do the taste testing.

Layer 1, done.

Turtle is ready to taste test again.

How good does that look?

Frosting that bad boy.

MacGyver - contributing to the delinquency of a minor. I now have to teach Turtle NOT to stick our fingers in other people's cakes.

The finished birthday cake.

It doesn't look like Turtle enjoyed it.

After the little one was in bed, I cooked dinner: veal cutlet dredged in flour with salt, pepper, basil and parmesan cheese and sauteed in olive oil, with mini bowties in a sauce of butter, balsamic vinegar and basil. I opted for just pasta, but MacGyver said his meal was far better and much more cost-effective than the $18 veal piccatta he gets at the Italian place down the street.

I don't know what he's trying to tell me.

And then we just watched Bowl Games. We'll do The Hangover tomorrow night.

Happy Birthday to my husband and best friend. I had a wonderful day and hope you did, too.
