28 Weeks & Husband of the Day

Wednesday, February 27, 2008

This morning, I had my 28 week appointment with the doctor. All my appointments so far have been pretty uneventful, very quick, in and out type of things. Besides being a little uncomfortable (which I imagine is to be expected), I really haven't had any questions or issues.

Today's results? Weight gain of 5 pounds (total gain of 16 over the pregnancy), urine is good, blood pressure is good, and Turtle's heart rate is good. Fantastic.

Then the doctor comes in. I have a group, so I meet with several different doctors over the course of the pregnancy. This one is new. He comes in, measures me and tells me "Wow. He's growing really fast. He's measuring two weeks ahead. We're really going to have to keep an eye on that." Ack! Needless to say, I'm a little freaked out. I was prepared for my May 18/19 due date. Anything sooner is definite cause for panic.

Of course everyone keeps saying that big, active babies are healthy babies, so there's no reason to fear. I will keep that in mind.

Now let me take you back a few nights. We were watching TV and an Arby's commercial came on. For chocolate turnovers. Of course, I turned directly to Hubby, my best "Please get me..." face solidly in place.

I've been good about cravings, really. I've wanted things (pop tarts, brownies, cupcakes and assorted sweets) but we haven't had a moment where I wake up at 2am and grab Hubby and say "Ohmygod, if i don't get xxx STAT, there will be hell to pay."

The following conversation ensued:
Me: Those look really good.
Hubby: What about the pop tarts I just picked up?
Me: Pop tarts aren't chocolate turnovers
Hubby: What about the Girl Scout cookies we have?
Me; Those aren't chocolate turnovers either.
Hubby (after a moment of thought): You don't even LIKE Arby's.
Me: They never had chocolate turnovers before.

He didn't rush for the door; we went on with our day.

This afternoon, I took a shower, and came downstairs with Molly to find that Hubby, Oscar & Bentley were gone. How nice, thought I. He took them for a nice, long walk. I proceeded to get involved in an AIM convo with a pregnant friend. After about 10 minutes of chit chat, I think that it's really been a while since they've been gone. After 20 minutes, I point out to my friend that there's no way Oscar can walk that long. And I hear a car in the driveway.

I type "You don't think he took the dogs to go get chocolate turnovers, do you?"

As Hubby walks in the door, with two pugs and an Arby's bag.

Husband of the Day, hands down.

Nursery is painted!

Tuesday, February 26, 2008

My husband finished it on Sunday afternoon. He did an amazing job, and apparently inhaled quite a bit of those fumes, because he has now volunteered to paint our downstairs powder room in his spare time this weekend. Who am I to argue?

Some pics of his handy work:

The furniture comes in about five weeks. However are we going to wait???

A little winter NFL chat

Monday, February 25, 2008

Figured we could all use a break from baby and house chit chat, so let's turn our attention to the Miami Dolphins and football season.

First, the Dolphins have released Zach Thomas, who has since signed with the Dallas Cowboys. I'm ok with the decision. While I'm annoyed that the Dolphins let him go (not on the same level as the Travesty of the Release of #83 Wes Welker, Who Is Now Dead To Me), I can understand. With him getting older and being out all last season with concussions, it's hard to see how he's going to fit in with the 2008 system. And better the Cowboys than the Patriots or the GanGreen.

Of course, this leads me to the Curse of the Jersey. I have a collection of Dolphins jerseys.

#83 - He Who Is Dead To Me - well, we all know what happened there... exactly three games after I got it.

#23 - Ronnie Brown - injured at the beginning of 2007, out for the season

#54 (3 of them!) Zach Thomas - released, and off to the Cowboys.

So, what to do? I've been looking at the Jason Taylor jerseys, but I'm afraid it will doom him to be released from his contract, too. Some may say that the Dolphins should let him go so he can win a Superbowl, but I disagree. There are no guarantees. Sure, the Dolphins are not in a great position for a shot, but anything can happen. And obviously, Tom Brady and the Patriots showed the nation that there are no sure things in football:

PS - Jason Taylor will be a contestant on Dancing With the Stars next season. Don't forget to vote! :)

In My Spare Time

Saturday, February 23, 2008

While Hubby slaves away over his painting task, I haven't been twiddling my thumbs. I've been working very hard at updating this blog! :)

But seriously. I finally have my scrapbook motivation back, so I put my craftiness to work using a 5x7 from the family photo shoot we did last month.

First, I sent off about $50 to scrapbook.com for new supplies. I just can't seem to come back from a scrapping hiatus without a bunch of new items. When my shipment came (and yes, there was the inevitable "But don't you HAVE enough of this stuff yet?" from Hubby), I let it sit on the desk in my "scrapping center," the desk in the corner of the loft, to which my hobby has been relegated. After a week or so, I collected a bunch of paper, chipboard, and other fun embellishments and moved them all to the unused side of the kitchen table, to sit for another week.

This prompted the wise question from Hubby: "So, honey, what kind of chair do you want for your scrapbook desk?" I think the clutter might have been getting on his nerves. That reminds me, I have to start looking at chairs.

Anyway, a good three weeks after inspiration struck, I put together this cute little page.

12x12 Valentine's cardstock, chipboard flowers with decorative centers, vellum quote, and MM perfect pair metal tab.

You'll be pleased to know that elements for my next page have once again migrated down to the unused side of the kitchen table, waiting patiently for me to get started.

Starting the Nursery... Finally!

I think we've both been in a bit of denial about starting Turtle's room.

Last weekend, we finally ordered the crib and dresser, and yesterday, we went to Home Depot for paint. Hubby has made it very clear that he does not want me doing ANY of the painting (ironic, since I painted our entire townhouse and the majority of what's painted in our new house and loved every second of it), so it's all on him. So far, I haven't heard lots of cursing, so that's a good thing.

Now I really have to start making decisions on artwork. We've decided not to do a "theme" (to the horror of my extended family), so we're relying more on colors and patterns than a concept.

Check out what we have so far:

Convertible crib & double dresser in midnight (black): Baby's Dream Omni Collection

Bedding: Flashback by Glenna Jean

Molly shows off the painting job: Behr's Rhythmic Blue

I would really love to do some kind of squares or stripes on an accent wall, but we have knockdown throughout the house and I don't think either one of us have the patience for dealing with that. Oh, well - we'll just make up for it with some cool decor and call it a day.

Updates to come!

Hello, there

Tuesday, February 19, 2008

So, here it is. My blog. You know, because everyone's doing it.

It's been a busy few years. We got married in November of 2006. We did tons of travel, with a two-week trip to Maui, San Francisco and Napa Valley, followed by two weeks in Rome, Venice and Paris a few months later. We bought a new house in a new city in June of 2007, rescued our third pug in August, found out I was pregnant in September, and moved to our new home the day after our first anniversary. It's been a lot of change and a lot of adjustments, but we're settling in nicely.

I'm now 27 weeks pregnant, give or take. When we got our first ultrasound, at a whopping 8 weeks, I was convinced we were having a turtle, because, well, it really looked like one.

At my 20 week ultrasound, we saw, via a very helpful arrow, that we were having a little boy. However, the "turtle" nickname has stuck (at least as far as I am concerned), despite having compromised on the name Aiden Patrick for our little bundle of joy.

I didn't particularly enjoy my first trimester. It was a pretty wreteched existence, limited to my bed and the nearest bathroom, with a daily, though not always successful, attempt at going to work. Honestly, it was like three months of food poisoning combined with a bad hangover. Things improved around Thanksgiving (yay!), and now, already in my third trimester, I'm doing relatively well.

My husband has been great. Of course, I haven't had any weird, late-night cravings which would force him to venture out in search of some unattainable food, and the one night I did want Taco Bell (at a reasonable dinner hour) ended up being the night that Turtle started kicking. I admit, it took me a few minutes to figure out exactly what was going on down there. :)

So that's the quick rundown. I plan on having tons of tales of pregnancy, pugs, adjusting to a new city and all that good stuff. Enjoy!
