Bobby Flay is Out To Get Me (and a pancake recipe)
Thursday, January 21, 2010
This is Bobby Flay.
You may recognize him from a little thing called Food Network. Or Boy Meets Grill. Or Iron Chef America. Or original Iron Chef, for that matter.
But the problem is Throwdown. With Bobby Flay.
MacGyver has been turning this show on the last few night, due to a lack of decent midseason programming. Unfortunately, the masterpieces featured on this show (both Bobby's and his blindsided competitors) are totally droolworthy.
Like last week? When he butted heads with some baker from South Carolina who makes a 12 pound, 6 layer coconut cake with cream cheese icing? That's got to be illegal in all the other states, right?
Ok, hopefully it's not illegal here, because I totally plan on figuring out how to make that frosted heart-attack-on-a-cake-plate.
Which brings us to the part where we had to make pancakes for breakfast today, because MacGyver got all wrapped up in last night's Pancake Throwdown.
Homemade pancakes.
On a Thursday. A Thursday, for crying out loud!
Oh, crazy, crazy times!
In this bowl, we have 1.5 cups of flour, 3 tbsp sugar, 1 tbsp baking powder and 1/4 tsp salt.
In this bowl, 1 1/4 cups milk, 2 eggs and 1 tsp vanilla extract. You'll want to whisk up the contents of this bowl.
Melt about 3 tbsp butter in a pan and add to liquids, whisking to combine. Then add the liquids to the flour mixture and blend.
Melt a little more butter in your pan or griddle. Use a ladle to spoon out a portion of batter on to the hot surface.
Flip!
Mmmm. Pancakes.
I like mine cut into triangles with butter and syrup.
Oh, and darn you, Bobby Flay!!! Darn you! I would shake my fist in your general direction but it is otherwise occupied with a fork.
