Fun For Kids: WikkiStix!

Sunday, January 10, 2010

So, I know you're asking. What the heck is a WikkiStix?

Well, I'm going to tell you.

We went to Ted's Montana Grill for lunch today.

Ted's is a great place. They specialize in bison burgers, and they pay special attention to being green and natural. For example, they use recycled paper straws, and borax powdered soap. They also make a mean onion ring.

Anyway, when we were seated, the hostess laid out the menus, set up Turtle's high chair and then reached the part where she's supposed to hand over the kids' menu/placement and the requisite packet of 3 Crayolas (red, yellow and blue).

Instead she said "And here are your WikkiStix. Enjoy your meal."

According to the website, which also points out that WikkiStix are in their 20th year, WikkiStix are "unique, patented wax formula and yarn; more creative than a craft; more fun than a toy; great teaching tool; stimulate creativity and imagination; safe, non-toxic and endlessly reusable; stick to each other and almost any smooth surface with just fingertip pressure; great for 3-D activities; easy to change and reposition; appeal equally to boys and girls; ideal for ages 3 and up; no right or wrong way to play; made in USA."

That's quite the list of credentials.

So basically, they are these little strips of brightly colored... well, wax and yarn... And you can bend them and twist them and make shapes and all sorts of neat, entertaining things.

And they have these little kits that they sell to resturants, who apparently use them in lieu of the whole crayon/placemat deal. Pretty smart, if you ask me.

You can find them on Amazon.com, in all sorts of different combinations, as well as guidebooks for making different shapes and designs.

Hope your kids love them as much as mine did!

They have those at Grand Lux also - I don't know who has more fun with them, me or Alexis!
