Fun for Kids: Valentine's Cookies
Wednesday, February 10, 2010
Thanks to the shenanigans of Mother Nature, the weather has been completely awful.
Especially if you are a toddler, whose new favorite activity is pressing his nose against the spotless french doors, pointing at the rain and saying "Ow-side! Ow-side!"
Yesterday, I was able to distract him, though.
With cookies.
Ordinarily, we bake from scratch. However, I had a packet of sugar cookie mix that I got to test icing samples, and Turtle had found it in a great game of "Let's Open the Pantry." He brought it to me and I thought, yes. Let's make cookies.
You'll need this fabulous bag of Sugar Cookie mix, 1 stick of softened butter and 1 egg.
You'll also need a third party (in this case, MacGyver) to lift Turtle to an appropriate height so that he can dump things into the mixer and mommy can take pictures.
Add the butter.
Add the egg.
Mix it all together.
Turtle seems perplexed by this magical mixing machine.
Mmmm. Cookie dough.
I chilled the dough and rolled it out for cutting. MacGyver just had to help, the big baby.
First we cut out some hearts.
And then we did some regular drop cookies for Turtle to decorate with a variety of sprinkles and sugars.
He takes his job very seriously.
Happy Valentine's Day!
Oscar says "I iz pug. I haz cookie?"
Turtle says "Nom, nom, nom."
