Dear Randy Shannon,
Thursday, February 11, 2010
You're probably aware of the latest recruiting news: little David Sills committing to USC at the tender age of 13.
It's amazing. Phenomenal. Precedent-setting.
It's the reason I'm writing you this open letter.
In my blog.
That you probably don't read.
But should.
The point here is that we are raising Turtle as a Hurricane. Em! Eye! Ay-Em-Eye! Fight! Fight! Fight! He has had a Sebastian the Ibis mobile dangling over his crib from the start. He can identify the orange and green split U and yell "Hurr-canes!" at the top of his lungs.
But that's not all.
Just recently, before his 2nd birthday, Turtle is showing an aptitude for catching the pigskin.
I'd like to demonstrate his mad skillz via this sequence of action photographs. For lack of a better "coach", my husband is standing in as quarterback.
Here, you see Turtle finishing off his route, getting in position.
He sets up, on the ready, ignoring the distraction of the toys around him (let's pretend those toys are part of the defense).
This is the very definition of focus.
He's totally Jedi. His eyes are closed. He's feeling the force. The force, I tell you!
And just like Greg Camarillo of the Dolphins, Turtle brings in the catch, even if it means using his face to help (reminiscent of Camarillo's great thigh catch of '09).
We call that chutzpah, Randy Shannon. Chutzpah.
And you need that on your team. At least, you *will*. In 2028. I know that seems far off, but you can never be too prepared. And we would all hate it if the Seminoles came a'knocking.
Please take this into consideration. We'll be sure to keep you abreast of Turtle's progress, so get that file started.
Go Canes!

Chutzpah and Miami Hurricanes...dare I say you are from Florida? I grew up in Ft. Lauderdale with a grandma who says chutzpah often...where are you guys?
Don't come knocking here Seminoles. You are not wanted here!
Go Canes!
Metta, I'm a Joisey gal, born and raised. I'm also a Miami alum, so I did put in some time down in South Florida. Chutzpah is equally Fort Lauderdale/Boca and the NY/NJ areas.
Also, it's really fun to say. :)
Aww how cute! He's going to play someday. How's his arm for throwing?
You've been nominated for a award on my blog. Check it out when you have the chance.
He throws a little like a shotputter, but some good coaching will adjust that, no doubt. Fingers crossed.
