Hectic weekend

Sunday, October 5, 2008

The long and short of it is this: I'm sick. Nasty head cold. I'm miserable. I have the achy-stuffy-sneezy-fever-want-to-hide-under-the-covers sickness. Fun.

And the one thing I was looking forward to this weekend (S'mores brownies with NCAA football) was completely ruined by my immune system's betrayal. Damn.

So DH had to go out of town to do some work on our old townhouse. It will be good to have the tenant out and get a new one in place. We have a great plan for that, so things should work out for the best. At least until the market turns around. He was good enough to come home Saturday afternoon because I was doing an awful job with Turtle. It was so hard being sick and trying to care for a teething baby. I was and am so terrified of infecting him. Hopefully, he'll be ok.

And now, about my precious Turtle. He's been quite the busy guy.

First, I'd like you to see his negotiations with Molly. Molly adores Turtle and the feeling is mutual. He loves to pet her and she accepts this. However, Turtle has decided he would like her toys. He will sit next to her and reach for them. And she will look at him like WTF, kid, and then very slowly turn her head, so that he gets the point that her toys are exactly that. Hers.

And then she snorts at him, which makes him laugh. Shown here.

I can spend hours watching this intense cat and mouse game. The only problem is that Turtle is deciding if he cannot have her toys in his mouth, he'll just try to put her whole head in his mouth. I'm sure you can guess how well that goes.

Next up: Turtle's crib. I tried to put him down for a nap today. In his crib are bumpers (they are very heavy, and he has been ignoring them. I had them out, but put them back in when he would rotate in his sleep, bump his head on the wood, and wake up mad), and two blanket rolls (we put one on either side to keep him from rolling - not that he does, but just in case).

So I was checking the monitor, and wouldn't you know he decided he wanted the bumper in his mouth and was grabbing it with his chubby little hands and trying to get it in. So of course, I ran right upstairs to put a stop to that and remove the bumpers. He accepted this for a minute. I got back to the monitor to find that somehow he had hooked one of the blanket rolls and was trying to eat THAT. Good grief! I totally cleared out his crib and he found his thumb and went to sleep. Sheesh.

Last, but not least, we had to bid farewell to his trusty bouncy seat. As we were changing him today, DH discoverd he had a bloody heel. Upon further investigation, we realized that he had been kicking a lot in his bouncy seat to make it really bounce. Well, there's not a lot of padding on the frame, and his leg is long enough that the back of his ankle hits it directly. Poor guy - his first boo boo. So, DH took Turtle shopping and got the FP newborn-to-toddler rocker. It was supposed to be his Christmas gift, but i guess we'll have to find something else.

At first, he was not a fan, but he's figuring it out and I think he's going to love it.

Oh, and the cherry on the sundae? Dolphins kicked boo-tay. They are now 2-2, which isn't great, but it's a good start! Yay!
