Holiday Ribbon Wreath
Wednesday, December 2, 2009
Some days, I get a crafty bug up my butt. This week, my attentions have turned to Christmas decorating.
We have a wreath for our front door. It's a very pretty branch wreath, interlaced with some red holly berries and pine cones. It's about 5 years old, and getting rather shabby. The berries have lost some color and a few pine cones are missing. New wreaths, especially ones I like, are pricey.
And then I stumbled upon a how-to in The Long Thread. It's for a very pretty and simple Ribbon Wreath. Score.
I stocked up. I got four 10-yard spools of 1.5" satin ribbon (two green and two red) at Hobby Lobby. The spools were $4.99 on sale for 50% off. Woot! At Michael's, I got a 14" foam wreath form for $4.99.
First, I cut and measured a 48" piece of red ribbon for hanging. The rest I cut into 16" pieces.
The Long Thread describes how to do a "messy knot," where you tie right over left, and then right over left again. It took a little while to get the hang of, but I managed.
I did two reds, then two greens, and alternated around.
Finally, I tied a knot between the two open ends of the 48" piece of ribbon and did a slip knot around the wreath form to create the hanger.
It's bright and festive, and so easy!
