Northern Road Trip - Part 2 (Turtle does DC)
Tuesday, April 21, 2009
On Sunday, we had gorgeous weather, so we decided to drive to DC for the day. This was great because a) the fresh air is just great for Turtle's sleeping and b) because in all the years I spent in the NE, I have never once set foot in Washington DC. I know. Crazy.
We got to the city around lunch time. On our way to the restaurant, we posed in front of the White House. I was absolutely in love with all the tulip gardens.
For lunch, we went to The Old Ebbitt Grill, Washington's oldest saloon. We had a bit of a wait, but it was worth it.
Aunt A entertained Turtle while we waited for our table.
Turtle got to enjoy his first hamburger in the atrium. Yum. My. He was a trooper through lunch, and never once fussed. Then we were ready for our walking tour of the Mall.
We headed to the Washington Monument. It was really beautiful to see with all the flags unfurled in the wind.
A much needed pit stop on our way to the Lincoln Memorial.
Beautiful view of the Memorial. There were tons of ducks and people just enjoying the day.
Turtle's cousins, watching the Reflecting Pond and the ducks.
Hai, President Lincoln!
Hai, everybody!
Mommy + landmarks = a good day.
When we got home that night, Turtle was treated to a delicious dinner of Aunt A's turkey meatballs and some cheese. This child loves his cheese. Loves it.
When he was finished, he was treated to his very first First Birthday Party. There were presents and cake and pointy hats. It was such a sweet thing for his aunt and uncle and cousins to do. We all appreciated it so much.
Turtle took his time with the wrapping paper. He got a great board book, an outfit, a wooden puzzle and...
... beach toys!
Yummy polka dot cake.
At first, he didn't get it. He wanted to dump his plate of cake off his highchair tray. Um. No. We don't dump our cake, silly boy!
Hmmm.... what's on my finger?
Oh, wait... this might be good...
Nom nom nom!
Happy Birthday to Turtle!
To be continued...
